My name is Sam Gallardo, and I wrestle at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. I am currently in my second season with the team and am majoring in Elementary Education. My journey in wrestling and football began when I was five years old. Since transferring to UNLV, I have made good friends and truly enjoyed my time wrestling.

Last season, I was honored to place 6th at the NCWA Nationals, which earned me All-American status. I am very thankful for the guidance and support that Coach Kevin Pine and James Downing provided last season, and for their continued dedication to the team this season.

We started this season strong at Fresno State, where I went 3-0 in the duals with two pins and a technical fall. The following week at Snow College, I lost in the blood rounds to a returning JUCO All-American. However, this past weekend, I bounced back to place first at the Utah Tech tournament with a 4-0 record, including one pin and two technical falls, one of which was in the finals. Looking ahead, our next competition will be a couple of duals at Vanguard.

Off the mat, I am committed to giving back to the sport. I have begun coaching at The Meadows and leading the beginner class at ATC. Additionally, I am coaching three young wrestlers from the beginner class—Duck, Flip, and Raiden—in private lessons. I believe it is important to mentor the next generation, as older wrestlers did the same for me when I was younger.
