Nevada’s ONLY College Wrestling Team, AND it is

“NOT”

a Club

Contray to popular responses UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) is NOT a Club Team. UNLV is a National Collegiate Wrestling Association Team aka NCWA which is a different league than NCAA, but it is legitimate and worthy in itself. Head Coach James Downing would like to change the reputation of the team from, “oh it’s just a Club team” because it is not, and he feels that it hinders the team and recruitment. Here is a link to the NCWA so you can read more about it. NCWA
Coach Downing believes that UNLV is a great option for wrestlers who for one reason or another would like a different route. Students must still be accepted into UNLV and be degree-seeking students. There is no age limit as long as the student is within the four years of eligibility required to wrestle for the NCWA.

Rebels Men’s Wrestling 2025 Preseason Update

The Rebels return two All-Americans from last season. Dylan Jarling (from Arizona), competing at 235 pounds, is a two-time Conference Champion who has placed twice at the National Championships (3rd and 5th). Sam Gallardo (from Shadow Ridge) is entering his second year at UNLV and aims to improve upon his 6th place finish from last season.

James Donham (Chaparral HS) and Ulyssis Short (from Arizona) are two returning national qualifiers who, with their hard work in the off-season, are looking to earn a spot on the podium this season.

After a year’s hiatus from Rebel Wrestling, Erik Escutia (125/133), Melo Castillo (133/141), and Sam Merrill (174) are returning to the mat and look to make an impact. Other returning wrestlers include Paris Carthen, Leonardo Salzano, Aiden Meske, and Robert Oliva.

St Ambrose University is a private Catholic College located in Davenport, IA. With over 80 different majors St Ambrose provides you with a great education, and a wide array of experiences that will make your college years memorable.

Lead by Bo Bettinson (3x Northern Regional Champion, and 2x State Champion for Reno High) the St Ambrose Wrestling team just finished up its inaugural season. Being a young team, the SAU wrestling team found loads of success this season. Winning 5 duals, finishing 5th at the conference tournament (while having a conference champion who was also Conference wrestler of the year, and conference tournament OW). The Bee’s wrestling team qualified 3 wrestlers for the NAIA National Tournament.

Success on the mat was not the only place SAU Wrestling found success. They also finished 15th in the nation for team GPA with a 3.288. The Bee’s also gained an Academic All-American in Michael Chagnon.

St Ambrose University is a place where you can win on the wrestling mat, in the classroom, and most important in life.

GO BEES!!!!!
