Hello my name is Sam Gallardo. Since coming to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas aka UNLV, I’ve had a great time surrounded by great people. It was a really positive move for me. I am grateful that I was able to find a new wrestling team, and it made it even better that it was back in Nevada! Without my coaches, teammates, and family this season would not have been possible. At our first tournament, back in November, I broke my thumb.

I broke it in the second match and wrestled two more afterwards not knowing it was broken. Weeks later I got an x-ray finding out that it was indeed broken. For the next three months I was in a cast. During this time I quickly learned that I can’t take wrestling, or anything, for granted because of how fast it can get taken away.

Fortunately enough, I was cleared two weeks before our Conference Tournament, and I got to wrestle. I took 5th, and I qualified for Nationals. At the NCWA (National Collegiate Wrestling Association) Nationals I went 6-3 taking 6th, and earning the All-American Status, which was great.

I want to thank my teammates, family, coaches, and everyone who has supported me through the year because I couldn’t have done it without all of you. I also want to give a big Shoutout to the boys James Donham, Tyson Cuamba, Uly Short, Dylan Jahrling, and Paris Carthen.
