| Hello my name is Ryan Hrcka. I am from Las Vegas NV,and I am currently a Sophomore at Minot State University and a dual-major athlete, studying Criminal Justice and Psychology. My wrestling journey started when I was eight years old, by that time I had already began Jiu-Jitsu, starting that when I was five years old, so I already had a pretty good grasp on wrestling with my main reason for starting was to get my Jiu-Jitsu better. My biggest challenges at first were learning the rules. During my first practice, I tried pulling guard thinking it would work in wrestling. I found out that they were very different from Jiu-Jitsu. After some time, I finally learned the majority of the rules and got comfortable wearing a singlet. |

I almost instantly loved the sport, once everything came together. It went from something I had to do, almost like a chore, to something I wanted to do. Then high school came around. I decided to attend Slam Academy. This was a big decision for me at the time, as I lived across town from Slam. Attending Slam was the best choice for me. I think it was worth it, as my wrestling got better from being there. Freshman year we couldn’t compete at State since our school was still new. Sophomore year I was a Runner-Up at State, and my Junior year when covid came around our season was cut short and we couldn’t compete at State. |

When senior year came I had a great season, and when it came to Regionals I had a nasty lung infection forcing me to medically forfeit to 6th, just to qualify for State. At State I placed 3rd. I then decided to wrestle and sign at Minot State University after my visit there. The facilities we have access to are very nice, and it has everything we need. The team is awesome, and we all get along well. Finally, the Coaching Staff is great as well, our coaches care for all of us and make sure we are doing well with everything. This season has been going great and I have been performing well. |

| In the first tournament of the season, I placed 3rd. I competed in a few duals after thay, and then I won the Dragon Open. A few weeks later, I won the Colorado Open. My current goal for college is to make 149lbs and be All-American this season. I want to thank my teammates and my coaches for helping me get better every day, but most importantly, my father. He has helped me every step of the way, and I wouldn’t be here without him. |
