Reese Larramendy started wrestling in 2010 when she was 6 years old. She fell in love with the sport after her very first practice. She had to start out wrestling the boys because she was one of only a couple girls wrestling in Reno at the time. That very first year Reese worked very hard and proved herself.
The goal quickly became to get Reese to girl’s wrestling tournaments. In March of 2012, at the age of 7 1/2, Reese traveled to Oklahoma City to compete in the USAW Girls Folkstyle Nationals and placed 2nd to her current teammate Korina Blades. Reese continued to travel to Oklahoma every year and in 2016 and 2017 she placed 1st. Reese also won the 2016 USAW Freestyle Nationals in Dallas, Texas. Reese has placed at every National girls tournament she has competed in.

All of Reese’s hard work and drive paid off in 2018, when she was given the opportunity to move to Kingston, PA and attend high school at Wyoming Seminary Private College Prep School (SEM) and become a part of the Blue Knights wrestling team. Erin Vandiver, a former assistant coach for the Women’s USA Olympic team, is the head coach for the SEM girls wrestling team, which was created in 2017 along with USA wrestling to act as an accelerated, elite development program. Reese made the tough decision to move away from friends and family at the age of 14 to follow her dreams.
During her Freshman year at SEM, Reese was able to travel and compete in Japan and Estonia. Then in May of 2019, at the end of her Freshman year, Reese made the U15 World Team by winning the UWW Women’s World Team trials in Dallas, TX. The win in Dallas, allowed Reese to travel to Budapest in June of 2019 and compete at the U15 Worlds, and she brought home a silver medal for USA. In July of 2019, Reese capped off her Freshman season by winning a National Title in Fargo, ND.

In September of 2019, Reese started her Sophomore year at SEM and was able to travel to St. Petersburg Russia to train and compete. She brought home a silver medal. Next up, in October of 2019, Reese competed at Super 32’s in North Carolina. Reese won her bracket and brought home the Super 32 belt. She continued to have a great start to her Sophomore season and was ranked as high as #1 in the USA Wrestling National High School girl’s rankings. Reese then traveled to Sweden in January of 2020. The SEM boys and girls wrestling teams won the Prep Nationals team title in February, and then Reese was able to come home for her spring break at the end of the month. This is when her season came to a screeching halt due to CoVid 19. Unfortunately, there was no Estonia in March and no Dallas in May. Although Reese was extremely disappointed like so many others, she is staying positive and working hard for when she gets the green light to start training again. She will continue to follow her dreams and looks forward to her Junior year at SEM.
