Hi my name is Nadera Muhammad, and I am currently a senior at Fernley High School. This is my third year wrestling. The journey started November 7th 2022 when I stepped into Fernley High School’s Wrestling Room wanting to try a new sport not knowing that it would become a big part of my life

I’ve accomplished a lot but the journey hasn’t been easy. Growing up in Las Vegas, basketball was the only sport from Elementary to freshman year that I did. At the end of freshman year, me and my family moved to Fernley, Nevada where I started at Fernley High School and decided to try out wrestling

It was definitely one of the hardest sports I’ve come across, and I wanted to quit and give up multiple times, but knowing that I’m doing something as hard as wrestling has kept me going. This lead me to what I like to say was a great first year with me being a Regionals Runner Up and an SNC Placer

Preseason junior year I moved back to Vegas where I attended ATC’s wrestling club giving me a huge push in my wrestling career. Taking the bus everyday to ATC for five months was well worth it. Wrestling at Atc showed me a more technical side of wrestling, and I learned a lot and met a lot of good people. But My stay in Vegas didn’t last long resulting in me transferring back to Fernley High mid wrestling season. It felt good to be back with the people I started with, and I was ready to show my coach all that I learned while I was gone. Even with the late start to the season, I was able to get my Second Title as a Regionals Runner Up and place at State with the push from my teammates and coaches. Senior year was next and there was much I wanted to accomplish so I decided to try out some offseason wrestling at Silver State Wrestling Club (now Gold Rush Reno) and Khutulun’s Girls Wrestling club, being in these two rooms has definitely pushed me more to be better.

So now it is senior year. Coming into this year I’ve been nothing but confident. With All the hard work in my years before I felt that this would be the year that I would see the results I wanted, and a great year is what it has been so far. I started my year with a First Place at the Reed Nevada Queens securing the crown, but I haven’t stopped yet. I also place 8th at The Tournament of Champions and 4th at the Sierra Nevada classic. The hard work has definitely paid off with much more to come.

My journey is not finished, but I would like to give thanks to all of those who have been a part of my success thus far startng off by thanking the ATC coaches; Coach Val , Coach Alex, and Coach Nap. They gave me a whole new viewpoint of wrestling and pushed me to become the best version of myself. I would also like to thank the Head Coach of Reed High school Girls Wrestling, Coach Klapp, for the constant support from him and the Reed Girls Wrestling Team wishing for my success every time I step on the mat.

I am also grateful for Coach Joey; thank you for all that you’ve taught me in that short time I spent at Gold Rush Reno. Big thanks to my family, the whole Fernley Team and Community for the support, and the girls who have been with me from the beginning–always my number one supporters. Lastly I would like to thank the big man, Coach Jacob Mcullar, that made it all possible, always pushing me to be the best in the room. His guidance and support has helped me reach high levels. On and off the mat he is an amazing role model and I am forever thankful.
