Hello everyone, I’m Maya Fiodorova! I’m incredibly honored to be recognized once again as NVSportsLocal Women’s Athlete of the Month for Nevada, July 2025. This past year has been an exciting journey in my wrestling career. I’ve had the opportunity to compete at several high-level national tournaments across the country, including Super 32 in North Carolina, Women’s World Team Trials in Washington, and most recently, Fargo Nationals in North Dakota.

Each of these events has helped me grow not only as a wrestler but as a person. They’ve pushed me out of my comfort zone, tested my discipline, and given me valuable exposure to elite competition from across the nation. I’m truly grateful for these experiences, the lessons I’ve learned, and the support and guidance I’ve received from my coaches, teammates, and family along the way.

In this article, I want to reflect specifically on my experience at Fargo 2025. Heading into the tournament, I was ranked #22 in the country, and I entered the Cadet 120lb bracket with the goal of becoming a top-3 All-American. I knew, however, that success would require more than just ambition; it would take focus, composure, and the ability to take things one match at a time. I stayed committed to the positions and techniques I’ve been working on all season and reminded myself not to get ahead of the moment.

Walking into the Dome is always a surreal feeling. The energy, the crowd, the adrenaline—it all fuels my drive. Although nerves are part of the process, I embraced them, using them to stay sharp and present.

During the tournament, on Day 1, I teched all my opponents without giving up a single point. On Day 2, I experienced two tough losses but then won my medal match with a near-tech, ultimately earning 5th place and All-American honors. This is considered one of the highest achievements a high school athlete can receive. While I fell just short of my goal, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made since last year, when I received my first national ranking at #29. I am simply beyond grateful for the opportunity. This performance was a major step forward, and it has only deepened my determination as I head into my junior year of high school.

The journey is far from over—but I believe in the process. I know that every practice, every match, and every challenge is preparing me for something greater. The pursuit continues.
