Hi, my name is Kitana Leafaatoto. I’m 16 years old and currently a Senior at Western High School in Las Vegas, NV. I’ve been wrestling for two years, and during this time, I’ve achieved significant milestones: I won my first State Championship Title in my Sophomore year, and I was the State Runner-Up in my Junior year. As I enter my Senior year in Girls’ High School Folkstyle wrestling, I’m proud to say that I’ve improved every time I’ve stepped on the mat. I’m currently ranked 17th in the country at 190 lbs.

I owe a huge thank you to my parents for their support and dedication to my wrestling career. I thank them for being there for me through every victory and setback, attending all my tournaments and providing endless encouragement. I also want to appreciate my hardworking team, from the coaches to my teammates. My coaches have pushed me to exceed my limits. I never thought I would be so disciplined to run two to five miles every day. My teammates have been more than just partners in practice, they’ve become my wrestling family.

Every day, I’ve committed myself to three hours of hardworking practice, which includes running, lifting, and wrestling. I first discovered wrestling from my high school ROTC Instructor who asked me if I wanted to try out wrestling, and so I did. I started going in the summer. As I tried wrestling I fell in love with the sport and the hard work I never thought I was capable of achieving. Then I decided I wanted to take wrestling further than I realized, and I now want to wrestle in college. As I look forward to continuing my wrestling career in college, I’m excited about the future and determined to keep improving.

I would love to attend the University of Iowa and pursue a degree in Radiology. I look forward to seeing what I can accomplish in my Senior year and at the next level.
