Hello, my name is Jayden Johnson and I am honored to be NVSportsLocal Athlete of the Month. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and I am currently a Senior at Cimarron-Memorial High School. Growing up in the Johnson Household you were always around sports–whether it was basketball, baseball, football, or wrestling. As a kid, I also played all of these sports. I worked hard in every sport and excelled in them. Growing up my favorite sport was baseball, until one day I was introduced to wrestling and my life changed forever.

One day I decided to join kickboxing at the House of RYU and my father and I were approached by none other than Kevin “The Monster” Randleman. He promised me after one year of wrestling I would be a Triple Crown State Champion, and at that moment I turned into a wrestler. He stayed true to that promise and I became our Club’s First Triple Crown State Champion. That year I also decided to quit baseball and stick to wrestling, and that moment was the beginning of something great. I wrestled at Monster Wrestling Academy for many years, and we were one of the best clubs in Nevada.

I was able to win Multiple State Championships and All-American. I decided to leave Monster in 7th and 8th grade and join Pistol Wrestling Club with Coach Pete Martin, Teddy Concepcion and Bob Gallardo. I improved dramatically over those two years, and we capped my youth career as Team Champions. Heading into High School I attended Sierra Vista High School and had a decent season with a record of 48-12 at 170lbs. We traveled to various Out-of-State Tournaments and I performed well. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make State that year, and it was a tough pill to swallow, and I knew I would need to come back next season.

That next year, I was fortunate enough to travel to Amsterdam for a Greco Tournament. It was truly an experience I will never forget. After my Freshman year, I decided to transfer to one of the top wrestling schools in Nevada, and it was a great decision. After not making State during my Freshman year I bounced back and became Nevada State Runner-Up at 182lbs as a Sophomore. The things Coach Mike Garica, Brandon Garica, and Kevin Caruso taught me have helped improve my wrestling, and I continue to grow every day.

I am grateful for my coaches and the people around me who have supported me through my wrestling journey. I am thankful for Coach Kevin Randleman, who I still keep close to my heart, for introducing me to the sport of wrestling and he continues to push me to this day. I would like to give a special thanks to Coach Pete Martin, Teddy Concepcion, Bob Gallardo, Joey Aniciete and Chase Pami for everything they have done for me. This is my Senior Season, and I hope to bring back a 4A Football State Championship and a 5A Wrestling State Title.
