My name is Harrison Smith. I am currently a Junior, and I attend Bishop Gorman High School.
In the two years since my previous bio, I have accomplished many of the goals and aspirations I set out to achieve before my freshman year. In my first year of high school wrestling, the highlight was placing 6th at the NHSCA High School nationals and placing second at Nevada state. However, I still wanted more.

Coming into my sophomore year hungry, I was able to win the state championships and earn over 100 career wins, but I ended up falling short in the round before bloods at NHSCA. This left me with the rest of the summer to prepare for the National championships in Fargo. As much as you try to block out distractions, it’s impossible not to feel the weight of a tournament like Fargo. Still, I focused on one match at a time, setting a goal of becoming an All-American.

Before the tournament started, my goal was to be an All-American, and I never would have thought I would be wrestling in the finals, let alone winning the whole thing. In the round of 16 match, I faced the number 2 seed and earned a hard-fought victory. That was when the untouchable title became within reach. After a couple more matches, I landed myself in the National finals. Unlike before the tournament, I was filled with confidence after defeating many tough opponents.

The most memorable takeaway I have from the match happened when we both obtained body locks, making the position 50/50. At that moment, I thought about bailing, but instead, I decided to go for it, and I ended up throwing him to his back and getting the fall. None of this would have been possible without the people in my corner. Thank you to my coaches Perry, Dickman, E, Joey, and Connor for your unwavering support, and to Coach Pami and all the Gold Rush coaches for pushing me to grow both on and off the mat.
