Luke began wrestling in the 1st grade when some family friends suggested he might like the sport. He fell in love with the competitive nature and had fun learning the skills. As Luke continued his first season, he decided he wanted to wrestle at the state tournament in Winnemucca, NV. To all of our surprise, Luke took first place in both Freestyle and Greco, and second in Folkstyle. Since that first year, and his first taste of competition, Luke has been all in.

He has had many opportunities through his time at Team GV, Slam youth wrestling, and wrestling in the SNWA to learn and grow into a good youth wrestler. Luke has been invited to join other teams for national tournaments and duals all across the country, allowing him to learn by wrestling kids from all over the US, and winning many State and National titles.

As Luke moved into High school wrestling he found more challenging yet rewarding opportunities to continue his growth, as a wrestler. He currently has a HS record of 111-20 with 49 career falls, 17 career tech falls, and 21 career major decisions. Luke is the 2018 LaCosta Invitational champion at 106 lbs, the 2019 Rockwell Rumble champion at 106 lbs, the 2020 Nevada State Champion at 120 lbs, and has placed at prestigious tournaments such as Five Counties Invitational, Las Vegas Holiday Classic, and Sierra Nevada Classic.

Most recently Luke competed at the 2020 Western States Championships in July, placing first in all three styles, becoming the Triple Crown Champion at 130 lbs, the 2020 Outstanding Wrestler, and he was also named USA Wrestling’s Athlete of the Week. Thanks to our awesome friend Rob Cate of USA Nevada wrestling, Luke was invited to participate in the USA Men’s Greco Team camp in August.

Luke has had amazing coaches throughout his wrestling career; Jake Rollans, Richard Rios, Zack Hocker, ATC coaches, and many more. But, his #1 coach, and his #1 fan, has always been his dad. They have traveled together to every out of state tournament, and there have been many! His dad has only missed 2 of Luke’s matches in the 11 years he’s been wrestling.

Luke has some pretty big goals for his wrestling career after high school, so he stays very focused, training 5-6 days a week between his personal strength-training with Nathan Garcia, wrestling practices, and private training at ATC (Aniciete Training Club). He also utilizes more training with coach Pami at Gold Rush until our High School season begins. We are very grateful to all those who have put their time and energy into getting Nevada Wrestling out there on a national level. Big shout out to Rob Cate, Marina Scott, and Kathi Berreyesa. We appreciate all you have done for Nevada wrestling.
