| My name is Jenavi Alejandro. Since being named Athlete of the Month by NVSportsLocal in May 2021, my wrestling career has taken me from Las Vegas to Tiffin University in Ohio, where I spent several years growing as both an athlete and an individual. Throughout my collegiate career, I became a two-time NCAA Women’s Wrestling All-American, a two-time Regional Champion, and a National Runner-Up. While these accomplishments mean a great deal to me, my college wrestling journey has been defined by much more than my success on the mat. |

| During my freshman season at Tiffin University, I established myself as a competitive wrestler at the collegiate level, finishing the 2022–2023 season with a 34–8 record and a Second-Place finish at the National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships. Becoming a National Runner-Up in my first year was an incredible milestone that showed me what I could achieve through hard work and dedication. That same year, I won the 2023 Soldier Salute Open and was named Tiffin University’s Female Newcomer of the Year. |
| |
| My sophomore season brought continued success as I captured a Regional Title and earned my second All-American Honor. I also stepped into a greater leadership role, ultimately serving as a Three-Time Team Captain. Wrestling has always been central to my identity, and leading my teammates while contributing to the growth of Tiffin’s women’s wrestling program became just as fulfilling as my individual achievements. |

|
However, my junior season looked very different than anticipated. After suffering a concussion, I was sidelined from competition for approximately a year and a half. Sitting out an entire season was one of the most difficult challenges of my college career. Wrestling had been such an integral part of my life for so long that stepping away was daunting, especially after working so hard to reach that level of competition. Watching my teammates compete from the sidelines forced me to reevaluate my relationship with the sport and discover a new role within the team. |
| |
| That experience taught me lessons I could never have learned through victories alone. I cultivated patience, found alternative ways to support my team, and realized that my self-worth extended far beyond being an athlete. Although the recovery process was arduous, it gave me a broader perspective on leadership, perseverance, and athletics, along with a deep appreciation for those who supported me along the way. |
| |
| After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Tiffin University with a 3.8 GPA, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Psychology and a minor in Psychology. I then chose to continue my education at Fort Hays State University in Kansas to pursue an MBA in Digital Marketing, intending to finish my final year of athletic eligibility on the wrestling team. |
| |
| Unfortunately, during the preseason, I suffered another concussion that permanently halted my competitive career. Though I still retain eligibility, I can no longer wrestle, and I have transitioned into a student-coach role at Fort Hays State University. While this is not how I envisioned concluding my collegiate wrestling career, I am profoundly grateful to remain involved in the sport that has shaped my life. |
| |
|
Looking back, my collegiate career has encompassed both my highest triumphs and my most formidable challenges. From earning All-American Honors to spending months on the sidelines and ultimately stepping away from competition, every chapter has shaped who I am today. Although my time as a competitive wrestler ended unexpectedly, the sport will always remain a part of me. |
| |
| As I continue my education and step into coaching, I aim to leverage my background as an athlete, student, and leader to open doors for the next generation of wrestlers. My journey has taught me that true success is measured not solely by medals or wins, but by resilience in the face of adversity and the courage to move forward when life charts a new course. |
