Hello, my name is Hunter Moore. I am currently in the mid-season of my Junior year at Roanoke College in Salem, VA, where I am the starting 197 lb wrestler with a record of 13-3.
Highlights of the season include winning the Wilkes Open Championship (Wilkes-Barre, PA) with an undefeated 4-0 record, which earned me the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Wrestler of the Week award..
After the Christmas break, our team competed in the Flo Wrestling Night in America dual on New Year’s Day in Front Royal, VA, securing a decisive 51-0 victory against Penn Tech, with every wrestler in the lineup winning their match.
Our team next traveled to Cedar Falls, IA for the USMC National Duals Championship on January 9th and 10th. We were fortunate to win the Division III Championship, becoming only the second school since 2002 not named Augsburg or Wartburg to do so. Our path to the title included defeating the #13, #3, #2, and #1 ranked teams in the nation.
In the semifinals against defending champions Augsburg, I wrestled the deciding match and clinched the victory with a 12-9 sudden-victory win over the nation’s #8 ranked 197-lb wrestler. I secured the final team title for Roanoke in the finals with an exciting 8-5 win over the nation’s #10 ranked 197-lb wrestler, finishing the Duals with a personal 3-0 record.
Following the tournament, our team was voted the #1 Dual Team in the nation for Division III, and I was selected as the ODAC Wrestler of the Week for a second time. To best support the team for the remainder of the season, my coaches have asked me to move down to the 184 lb weight class. We are aiming for a fourth consecutive ODAC Conference Championship, and I am personally preparing to compete at this year’s Regional and National Championships.
