I am Carson Beyer, an 8th grader at Billinghurst Middle School in Reno. I started wrestling in 2020 when I was eight years old. I still vividly remember my first win at a tournament in Fallon, NV. I initially joined a small club called Whizzer ‘N Dawg, but soon transferred to NV Elite because they continued to train during COVID. When I began at NV Elite, Coach Sorgani was the head coach before he left for Gold Rush in Las Vegas. My other two coaches were Coach Sully and Coach Mumm. In those first couple of years, I learned a lot, but the most important lesson was the value of hard work and what it truly takes to be successful in wrestling. I have been fortunate to learn from amazing and talented coaches and wrestlers at NV Elite, many of whom have reached the highest levels of the sport. |

While I continued to wrestle and make steady improvements, I also enjoyed playing other sports. I played football and baseball, and in my free time, I love to hunt and snow ski. I was lucky enough to play in the National Pop Warner Football Championships in Florida, which was a fun and great experience. On the baseball diamond, my team won the championship each of the last four seasons! Last year (2024), I also got my first Antelope and my first Mule Deer.

Like most wrestlers, my short career has had its share of ups and downs. I have always been successful against local competition, but I’ve had varied results against talent from other states. After winning the ‘Rumble in Reno’ in 2023, I felt like I hit a plateau. To push my game to the next level, I decided to quit baseball last year and focus solely on wrestling during the spring and summer. Unfortunately, I broke my collarbone in the Legacy Duals in Nampa, ID, early last season (January 2024). I was devastated because I had been looking forward to competing against some of the best in the West. As a result, I missed the rest of the season and couldn’t train through the spring and summer as planned. I felt like I lost valuable time at a critical stage of my career.

Thankfully, my collarbone healed in time for football season this year, where I finished the season playing outside linebacker for the 14U Reno Huskies. Despite the setback, my wrestling season is off to a great start, and I feel like I’m wrestling well. I recently won the Best of the West tournament in Medford, OR, and the following day, I helped the Nevada team take second place in our dual tournament. This strong performance has renewed my motivation and confidence, and I am focused on improving this season as I prepare for high school.

My goals for this year are to win a state championship and to make the Varsity team next year in high school. I also aim to do my best in school and develop skills that will help me succeed in both sports and in life. I am grateful for sports, especially wrestling, because it gives me a feeling of accomplishment, keeps me in shape, and provides the opportunity to learn from the best.
