Elko wrestling is alive and well. It was difficult losing a season, but we have a solid group of student athletes that met for a month of pre-season before cancellation. Some of my athletes wrestled matches in Utah and Idaho. I would like to thank Joe Imelli for the Summer Heat duals and all the local schools and participating teams from other states. My eighteen athletes wrestled around twenty matches a piece. It was encouraging to see mats down on a basketball court, and inspiring to witness the raw competition only wrestling can provide.

The future is bright for EHS wrestling. Due to the many renovations at Elko High, we are blessed to have our own wrestling space! I can hardly wait until the start of the 2021 season.

What a great time to be a wrestler. The Olympics provided some fireworks! With David Taylor’s come from behind victory for the gold medal, only to be topped by Gable Steveson’s amazing last thirteen seconds, Tamara Mensah-Stock’s dominating gold run, Grey and Snyder’s silvers, as well as, the numerous gutsy Bronze medal winners the wrestling community in the United States can be proud and inspired.

Moving forward is what wrestlers do. We all cannot wait to take to mats. No more stalling; it is time to toe the line!
